10000 steps a day

Most experts recommend taking at least 10,000 steps a day to ensure good overall health. How many steps do you take each day? 1 Mile =2100 steps, 1 km =1200 steps

Walking is an easy, natural, pleasant and affordable activity that you can do any time you want. It also requires no special equipment. So get walking! Walk for 15 minutes to enjoy a host of benefits as you take time to breathe and savor life.

Every step counts

Even the simplest parts of your daily routine can be great opportunities for taking a few additional steps.

  • Take the stairs
  • Go for a walk on break or during lunch
  • Walk to see a colleague instead of calling
  • Park your car or stop a short distance from your destination
  • Go for a walk with your family in the evening and on weekends
  • Walk around while you talk on the phone

Measure your progress

In order to slowly (but surely!) take more steps each day, you may want to set goals and measure your progress. Below are a few tools you can use.

  • Pedometer
  • Smartphone apps
  • Fitness trackers
  • Fitbit
  • Jawbone
  • Nike Fuelband

Estimating calories burned

A rough estimate to calculate the number of calories burned walking a mile at casual walking speed (2mph).

  • Multiply your weight in pounds (1 pound = 0.45 kg) by 0.49
  • For brisk walking (3.5 mph) multiply it by 0.57
